Garissa senator Yusuf Haji has urged the National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC) and the police to take action against political aspirants who perpetuate hatred in their campaigns.
Speaking at Masalani in Garissa on Saturday, Haji claimed that some aspirants are out to divide the country ahead of the August 8 polls.
The Jubilee senator said that NCIC has the powers and mandate to crackdown on hater mongers, inciters and those who fuel malicious propaganda in their campaigns.
“The NCIC and the police must be alert and take action against political aspirants who are known to spew hatred in their campaigns,” he said as quoted by the Standard.
The Garissa Senator noted that the country will have peaceful elections if rogue politicians are dealt with according to the law.
The senator asked Kenyans to keep off from politicians who spew hatred. He particularly urged the youths to remain peaceful and be on the front-line in preaching for unity and reconciliation.
Senator Haji exuded confidence of being re-elected in the August 8 general election. The senator is eyeing re-election on President Uhuru Kenyatta’s Jubilee Party ticket.
