Hospital Ward MCA Mwangi Wamwangi has demanded that National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) cracks the whip on Kenya Mpya buses that have continued to be involved in mysterious accidents leading to loss of lives.
Speaking on Monday in Thika town when he met the members of Ngogoyo Sacco whose Vice Chairman Onesmus Kimani died on Sunday after his vehicle collided with a Kenya Mpya bus, Wamwangi said that NTSA must bring sanity among the more than 100 Kenya Mpya buses.
"We have seen in the past NTSA suspending the operational licenses of some bus companies when one of their buses was involved in accidents or other cases of traffic offences but we have not seen this on Kenya Mpya buses," said Wamwangi.
He added: "We will not rest till the Kenya Mpya bus company management and NTSA explain to us the cause of all these accidents and what they are doing to curb them." Ngogoyo Sacco Chairman Frederick Giturwa who was also present said that the frequency at which the buses were being involved in road accidents was alarming.
"They have killed and maimed far too many people and we want to see the authorities act. How many people have to die before we see them take a substantial action? The bus company must be scrutinized seriously," said Giturwa.
On Friday, last week, the bus company management and the fleet crew held a meeting with NTSA officials at Cravers Hotel, Thika though the details of what was discussed in the meeting still remain scarce.
