Residents of Nakuru West have called for stiff action against illegal water vendors in the area whom they blame for the perennial water shortage.
Speaking Thursday, the residents called upon the Nakuru Water and Sanitation Services Company (NAWÀSSCO) to take a swift action against the vendors insisting that it was ridiculous for residents who pay for water bills to go for weeks without any water at the expense of a few tradérs.
"It is clear that some of these vendors are working in cahoots with some powerful individuals to cause water shortage,NAWASSCO should crack whip on them," said Dismas Nyambura.
His sentiments were echoed by Dorothy Maisiba who added that the vendors were exploiting them by charging exorbitant prices for water.
"Sometimes we are forced to buy a 20 litre of jerrycan at Ksh 50 and yet we pay our water bills on time," she said.
Efforts to reach NAWASSCO bore no fruit as calls went unanswered.
