Speaking to journalists in Kikuyu town on Wednesday, Wainaina said that most buildings in the area are not safe.

He said cases of buildings collapsing due to poor construction have risen in Kikuyu saying the county government should crack the whip.

“The government should inspect all buildings and take stern action against rogue contractors who ignore construction regulations,” said Wainaina.

The MCA said lives of residents especially tenants must be protected saying that the county government needs to establish a committee to oversee all constructions in the county.

He noted that there is laxity among officials mandated to ensure standards of buildings in the county.

Wainaina also urged the government to take action against landlords who rent out their houses before construction is complete.

“People should take responsibility for their actions. We can no longer tolerate rogue constructors and landlords who value money more than human life,” he said.

Wainaina at the same time urged Kiambu county government to improve roads in the ward for faster emergency response.

He observed that some roads connecting to the ward are in poor condition and need urgent repair.
