Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Waititu has vowed to completely abolish illicit alcohol in Kiambu County saying that it has affected the lives of many.
Speaking in Gitithia village in Lari sub-county on Thursday, Waititu said that beginning next week, the county government shall be launching new alcohol laws that will curb reckeless drinking in the county.
"It is possible to live without alcohol and we have seen it in Kijabe. We shall only live to tell stories that there used to be alcohol in this county," vowed Waititu when he launched the Gitithia-Mai Mahiu bypass.
Recalling how alcohol affected his life and that of his mother and siblings, Waititu encouraged men to shun alcohol and engage in productive activities.
"You all know how my father used to sell alcohol in Gitithia shopping centre and my mother had to run away and struggle to raise seven of us single-handedly. See the person I have become today" Waititu boasted.
Meanwhile, Waititu promised to ensure the revival of Uplands Bacon Factory and also provide free Artificial Insemination services in a move aimed at boosting agriculture.
Farmers shall also benefit from free avocado seedlings and a milk cooling plant in order to encourage dairy farming in the region.
School going kids from nursery to class three will also benefit from free milk and bread beginning from next term, said the governor.
