Despite calls to have Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i deputising William Ruto in 2022, a section of leaders from Gusii has dismissed the move.

Already, a group of legislators led by nominated senator Millicent Omanga and Sylvanus Osoro, have insisted that Matiang'i is fit for the seat.

"As a community, we should rally behind Matiang'i so that he leads us to the next level. We shall only allow the Deputy President offer," Osoro said on Sunday.

Understandably, Ruto had sanctioned all Gusii leaders to unite under one party before he signs any political agreement with them.

But ODM treasurer Timothy Bosire has dismissed the move as 'wishful thinking' adding that the people will only vote leaders of their choice.

"You can't force people down the throat to accept you. It is funny that they are fronting a convict for that post. It is only wishful thinking," he said.

Similar observations were made by ODM Youth League leader Dennis Marube who dismissed the unity talks as selfish.

"The same person they are fronting has been abusing fellow leaders. The community is united behind development and not political sideshows and theatrics."
