Cracks have emerged in the National Super Alliance (NASA) after Wiper Democratic Movement (WDM-K) candidates in Nairobi accused their counterparts in the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) of undermining them.

According to Nairobi Wiper candidate caucus chairman Mutiso Mutinda, ODM candidates led by city governor Evans Kidero have been sabotaging their affiliate partners by calling for a six-piece voting pattern for the Orange party aspirants.

“ODM dominance in the campaigns has overshadowed other opposition alliance aspirants,” he said during a press conference in Nairobi on Friday.

Mutinda, who is vying for Kayole South MCA seat, threatened that Wiper will back Kidero’s competitor Mike Sonko of Jubilee, because the governor has declined to fund their campaigns, whereas he was financing their ODM rivals.

" Wiper candidates feel undermined and sabotaged by Kidero in favour of ODM candidates," Mutinda said.

The politician added: "For the sake of equity and equality in the NASA fraternity, we urge him to ensure a level playing ground for all affiliate candidates."

However, in a quick rejoinder, Kidero dismissed the claims saying that a team of 60 Wiper members from each ward in Nairobi has been incorporated in NASA campaign team.

"There are no disagreements over the ongoing joint campaign rallies. We are still working on the best strategy that will ensure NASA clinches the majority of seats in the city," Kidero said in a statement.

The governor further cautioned that unless Wiper gets its act in order, the Opposition risked losing many seats in Nairobi to the rival Jubilee Party for failing to agree to field joint candidates.
