Cracks are starting to emerge in the NASA coalition as various party factions begin to position themselves to fill the Kwale senator seat that was left vacant following the death of Boy Juma Boy.
ODM Acting Secretary General Agnes Zani’s brother Nicholas Zani, who had previously declared interest to run for the governor's seat, has been endorsed by various groups to vie for the seat. However, a group with has received backing from Mombasa leaders, does not support Zani's bid."The senator post is not for inheritance like a kingdom. This is a democratic post which every Kwale resident has a right to go for. That is why we have asked Zani to take it up," Said Council of Imams branch secretary Hamisi Banda, as quoted by The Star.Banda was also quick to fire a warning shot at ODM leader Raila Odinga, saying the region will bolt out of the party if leaders will be imposed on them.Kwale ODM Secretary General Omar Boga who is supporting Zani's bid, said that his (Zani's) election will be good for Christians as they will get a chance at leadership. He added that as a county, they will not allow leaders to be imposed on them citing an example of Governor Salim Mvurya who joined the party at the last minute. Mvurya has since decamped to Jubilee.
