She said that she is against the intended retreat, adding that the meeting is unnecessary and the funds should instead be channeled to other development projects.

Addressing jounalists in Kisumu on Thursday, Odinga said the bonding session is unnecessary, adding that the county is lagging behind in so many areas and work has to be done.

She further said that going to Nairobi is a waste of time and money, adding that they can as well go for such meetings in other near counties like Homabay, Siaya or Busia.

“We are lagging behind and we must avoid such time wasting trips, why should we use a lot of funds to go to Nairobi,” she said.

However, South West Kisumu Ward MCA Joseph Otiende has defended the trip, saying it is important for the assembly and the executive wing to bond and work harmoniously.

Otiende said issues of retreats are normal in all counties, adding that the outrage by the public over their trip is unnecessary.

The bonding is scheduled to be attended by all Ministers, MCAs, Chief Officers and directors of departments.
