Addressing youth participants at a Nakuru hotel on Wednesday, nominated Senator Martha Wangari said that despite the measures taken by the government to curb unemployment; many cannot access job opportunities.

She said that the high number of young people joining criminal gangs is of concern and that there is need for urgent measures to be taken.

Wangari added that most youths in Nakuru have no access to job opportunities hence high cases of drug abuse, prostitution and crime.

“We laud the measures taken by the state to curb unemployment, however there is need for more to be done,” she said.

She noted that radicalisation of youths at the Coast is a clear indication that there is much more to be done.

She called on the county governments to work with the national government and find solutions to reduce unemployment.

At the same time, she asked the government to sensitise youths, women and persons with disabilities on development funds.

She said that most youths and women at the grass root levels have no idea of Uwezo and other development funds available.

“Many youths at the grass roots are not aware of the funds being provided by the government,” she said.
