Thika town MP Alice Nga’ng’a wants the county government to establish rehab centres for youths willing to stop drug abuse.
Speaking in Thika town on Saturday, the MP said that many youths are ready and willing to stop drug abuse but have no one to help and support them.
The legislator observed that drug abuse among young people is rife in the county and needs to be addressed urgently.
She said that the county government has resources to set up modern rehab facilities for those willing to quit drug abuse.
“I want to ask the county government to put up rehab centres across the county to help drug addicts who are willing to quit the vice,” she said.
Nga’ng’a also called for collaborative partnerships between the government and the private sector in the fight against drug and substance abuse.
She said that drug abuse remains a big challenge to the realisation of development since young people, who are supposed to be leaders of tomorrow, have been stuck in the vice.
The MP further called for stern laws on drug addicts in order to tame the vice, which she said continues to cause havoc in the society.
