It is not business as usual in Nakuru county as operations in most health facilities have been halted after more than 100 doctors downed their tools over delayed salaries.
Speaking to a local TV station, the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentist Union South Rift Secretary General Davji Atellah disclosed that the doctors decided to strike after the county failed to pay them their July salaries on time.
Atellah also added that a majority of hospitals do not have essential medical facilities and drugs like antibiotics and painkillers.
The most affected areas according to him are Ikumbi Dispensary in Kuresoi North, Health centres in Rongai sub-county and parts of Njoro sub-county.
The strike came hours after the county Finance Executive, Anne Njenga assured county workers that their salaries will be disbursed in a week's time.
Njenga said the situation is affecting all counties and they are waiting for Senate to approve expenditure.
Other workers unions like Kenya National Union of Nurses (KNUN) has also threatened to paralyse services in all public hospitals following delayed pay.
