Concerns have been raised over the increased number of teachers who have been seeking transfers from various schools in Ainabkoi sub-county.

According to the sub-county's Director of Education David Koech, a majority of the teachers have been seeking transfers over the area's poor climate.

Speaking at an Eldoret hotel on Friday after a meeting with primary headteachers from the sub-county, Koech said a majority of those who get transfers are never replaced by the Teachers Service Commission (TSC).

He said the sub-county currently has a shortage of over 180 primary school teachers.

"Teacher shortage is one of the key challenges we face in this sub-county and this has been as a result of most of our teachers preferring to be transferred to other areas due to the cold climate," noted Mr. Koech.

Ainabkoi is one of the coldest areas among the six sub-counties in Uasin Gishu as it is located near the Embobut, Timboroa and Kaptagat forests.

During the meeting, area MP who was the guest William Chepkut urged the TSC to consider posting more teachers so as to address the shortage.
