As the drought situation across the country gets more disturbing, locals of Ijara constituency in Garissa county are living in fear of their lives as a result of marauding wild animals.
The drought has forced elephants and buffaloes to roam freely in search of water and pasture as reported in Masalani in the expansive Ijara sub-county.
Even as this happens, a local Kenya Wildlife Service officer attached to the area, Omar Mohamed has said most of the region's water pans and underground water sources have already dried up forcing the wild elephants, buffaloes and warthogs to start moving into residential areas with the fading hope of quenching their month-long thirst.
Mohamed further added that KWS was seeking more funds to help construct more boreholes and also water pans for the wild animals in their natural habitat in order to reduce human-wildlife conflicts in future.
At a different incident, a driver of Ishaqabini Conservancy sustained serious body injuries after he was gored by a marauding buffalo.
The driver was later taken to the Garissa Referral Hospital where he is slowly recuperating.
