President Uhuru Kenyatta and his deputy William Ruto travel to Uasin Gishu, one of their strongholds and the DP’s backyard, amid fierce tension among the county aspirants.

Earlier this week, Ruto was forced to visit Uasin Gishu, in a bid to quell tension that has been brewing in the region Jubilee hopes to garner a huge number of votes.

There have been claims that the DP is supporting the gubernatorial bid of businessman Zedekiah Bundotich (Buzeki), who is vying as an independent candidate, after losing to Governor Jackson Mandago in the Jubilee nominations.

The area residents have reportedly warned that they will vote for The National Super Alliance (Nasa) if the top Jubilee leaders continue to support independent candidates, as opposed to those who won in the primaries.

Top security organs have warned that Governor Mandago and Kapseret MP Oscar Sudi are under investigation over incitement of the locals.

“Governor Mandago made an outrageous statement and the National Cohesion and Integration Commission is investigating. If evidence is adduced and the utterances of the governor and Honourable Sudi are found to be inciting Kenyans against others, then the legal process will take its course,” warned Interior Cabinet Secretary Joseph Nkaissery during a ceremony at the Administration Police Training College, Embakasi, honouring police officers who were killed in recent terror attacks – The Daily Nation reports.

Last week Friday, the governor, MP Sudi and Nandi Hills lawmaker Alfred Keter reportedly warned members of the Kikuyu community against supporting Buzeki in the August 8 elections.

They reportedly threatened to mobilise their supporters against President Kenyatta’s re-election bid if the Kikuyu community did not vote for Governor Mandago.

Uhuru and Ruto will be aiming at restoring calm in the region, which is key in their bid for a second term in office.
