Speaking in Kenya Seed Company offices in Kitale, KSC CEO Azaria Soi said the country is faced with a crisis due to the crop diseases that has attacked maize plantations in the North Rift region of the country.

"The farmers in the affected areas have been advised to cut down the crops affected by the diseases and we have also advised them to burn and bury the affected plantation to avoid spread of the disease. We have also called on the farmers to carryout crop rotation to help curb the disease," he said.

Uasin Gishu, Trans Nzoia and Elgeyo/Marakwet counties are the worst hit and it has been noted that these areas are the highest producers of the maize products for the country.

Soi said the Kenya Seed Company is working together with the government to nab those selling fake seeds that are prone to the Maize Lethal Necrosis disease and help farmers record good yields for the country's food security.
