Two Jubilee protagonists are set to attend the official opening of JAP Nyamira offices on Monday as sources indicate a possible political showdown ahead of party’s 2017 elections.
The two, Walter Nyambati and Charles Mochama, have both expressed interest in the Nyamira gubernatorial seat, and are equally close associates of top Jubilee leadership.
According to a top Jubilee official, the duo have confirmed their attendance, and are likely to engage in a fierce political rivalry.
“The two leaders have confirmed their attendance during Monday’s event and as officials, we really fear of more wrangles because they all want the Jubilee ticket,” said Nick Kibeni.
“However, we expect that they will all monitor their supporters to avoid any violence because our party is peaceful and we are pulling towards the same direction. After all, we are fighting a common enemy in the name of Cord,” added Mr Kibeni, the chair, JAP Youth Nyamira .
Mr Mochama who spoke to this writer said he would attend the event and called for unity ahead of the ceremony.
“The party is much more important that anyone and it’s good that we do not incite our supporters. Respect is important and I call upon my opponents to respect the party for the sake of unity and supporters,” he said.
Mr Nyambati is the pioneer of Jubilee Alliance in Gusii region while Mochama is viewed as an outsider because he only defected from ODM recently.
Mochama is believed to be backed by DP William Ruto while Nyambati is a confidant of President Uhuru Kenyatta.
