The education sector in Garissa county is in a crisis as more than 25 teachers are facing what some have described as the forceful transfer of their teachers from the county.
It is said that teachers have been told to down their tools and report to the county head.
It is claimed that the transfer of teachers from the county is due to security concerns, a claim others have refuted.
"The orders that we received from the bosses were that we were supposed to report to the TSC county director's office then we be given further instructions due to the insecurity in the area." said a teacher who did not reveal his name.
"Our lives have been in danger sleeping in different villages while not spending twice in a single village." the teacher said.
Some locals claimed that the Ijara sub-county director is responsible for the compulsory transfer of teachers in the area.
"I am from Ijara and I would like to say that teachers are being handed compulsory transfer. TSC sub-county director is responsible for this. The government should help us. It is like a business to him. The sub-county director takes bribes from the teachers promising to transfer them to other urban towns," said Yassin, a resident of Ijara constituency.
