The coordinator of Nyumba Kumi security initiative in Menengai-East location in Nakuru sub-county Elias Wamuingwa has claimed that most suspected criminals in the area operate from filthy alcohol drinking joints.
While addressing residents and members of his group at Muchanganyiko slum area along Nakuru-Nyahuru highway on Friday, the Nyumba Kumi boss said local illicit brew dens and small alcohol selling joints habour criminals because such joints do not operate legally and do not vet their patrons.
Wamuingwa said that his committee had instructed bar owners and other alcohol sellers to scrutinize their patrons to establish their behavours and identity.
He however said crooks are aware of the directive and frequent filthy joint where they are never subjected to scrutiny.
“We are aware that crooks hide in these dirty places. It is here where they plot vices but we are on the lookout. We will ensure that we wipe them out,” said Wamuigwa.
He further said that Nyumba Kumi initiative can only succeed if all residents of the area cooperate. He observed that some areas were responding well to the initiative, while others were not due to negligence and ignorance.
While warning illicit alcohol and pubs operators not to operate at odd hours, he also blamed security agents for bailing or sparing suspected criminals that his group spies upon before reporting about their conducts.
