Education Cabinet Secretary Amina Mohamed has condemned the killing of three teachers by suspected Al-Shabaab militants.
The three non-local teachers were on Friday killed following a dawn attack by suspected Al-Shabaab militants at Qarsa Primary School in Wajir County.
Ms. Mohamed in a statement said the ministry of education and leaders in the region will ensure that teachers are protected.
Ms. Mohamed said the attack on Qarsa is an important reminder to Kenyans that learning institutions in Kenya, as in other countries across the world, remains a soft target for terrorists.
The CS said on Friday that the education ministry will put up appropriate measures to ensure the safety of learners and teachers in the region.
“I received with regret news of the death of three teachers following a dawn attack by suspected Al-Shabaab militants at Qarsa Primary School in Wajir County.”
“At the Ministry of Education, we have been in touch with the school administration, security agents, and leaders in Wajir County. This abhorrent assault has brought immense pain to those who have lost their loved ones and great distress to our country and especially the Ministry of Education and the teaching fraternity,” she said.
“The Ministry of Education is alive to this reality and has formulated appropriate measures and guidelines in order to ensure the safety of our learners, teachers from terrorism and other threats,” added the CS.
