Foreign Affairs Cabinet Secretary Amina Mohamed will to be part a new Team of External Advisers courtesy of the President of the General Assembly of the United Nations, H.E. Miroslav Lajcak.

The team will be tasked with advising him on the most effective way he can push forward his priorities ahead of the General Assembly’s 72nd session.

Among the list of priorities are conflict prevention and sustaining peace, mediation, migration, implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals and Paris Agreement on climate change, human rights and human dignity, and the future and reforms of the United Nations.

The 15 member team plan to meet for the first time in New York on October 6.

On their agenda will be global political issues, impressions of the General Assembly’s recently concluded high-level week, messages from the General Debate and upcoming key international challenges.

The appointment comes after Mohamed missed out on the chair of the African Union Commission position earlier this year.
