Foreign Affairs CS Amina Mohammed has lamented on continental division after she lost her bid to become the African Union chair.
CS Amina lost to Chad’s Moussa Mahamat on Monday after the seventh round of the poll. Kenya’s stake for the AUC top job dwindled after Mahamat garnered 38 votes in the last phase of the vote.
The CS said it is unfortunate that African countries are divided along language lines.
Terming the loss as a good lesson for the country, CS Amina said that she would return to continue with her executive role at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
On his win, Moussa Faki Mahamat said he would utilize his capacity at the AU to see change on the continent’s socio-economic besides steering efforts to realize the continental Agenda 2063.
CS Amina was concerned with allegations that states within the East African Community neglected to support Kenya’s quest to have its representative at the helm of the AUC.
