Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Felix Koskei says that the country is in a position to harvest more than 40.3 million bags of maize this year against the required 40.2 bags.

Speaking on Wednesday in Naivasha Sub County, Koskei said that the State will start irrigation projects in all the counties and sub counties.

"We will improve farming methods, subsidised all the farm inputs and ensue we have a better extension services hence making sure that we have good yields this year," said Koskei.

Koskei noted that the government has already dropped fertiliser cost by 50 per cent. 

"We have dropped the cost of fertiliser by 50 per cent and we are now working on the mechanisms which will help us reduce the cost of production which is still very high to the farmers," notes Koskei.

Koskei said that his ministry was going to start educating farmers on the new methods of farming.

"We want to embark on training the farmers on the new methods of farming which are economical to them as well as market tactics," added Koskei.
