ICT Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i has called upon Nyanza region leaders to preach tolerance among the people. Speaking in Kisumu over the weekend during the opening of a hotel, Matiang’i said two heckling incidences that have recently happened in the region mirror the area in bad light. “I watched with dismay what befell my sister Racheal Omamo in Bondo and I also witnessed first hand was happened to us in Migori,” he said. He appealed to the elected leaders to play their role and ensure the people are well guided. Matiang’i said elected leaders are chosen by God and the responsibility they have is to direct communities to a safer world. The cabinet secretary said the community needs direction from the leaders and challenged local leaders to use their positions to bring the community together. “Elected leaders should come to the rescue of the community and find better ways to solve any difference not through violence,” he said. Matiang’i said differences can be sorted out in a more amicable way. He said the incident in Migori last year where President Uhuru Kenyatta had to cut short his speech was an embarrassment to him. Matiang’i said locals should appreciate development that is brought amidst them by the national government. “Let us be receptive to the government who have come to help us solve our problems,” he said.
