Kenyans should embrace volunteerism, East African Cabinet Secretary Phylis Kandie has said.
Speaking in Nairobi during Voya Gala night, the CS vowed to push for inclusion of training and certification of volunteers in the education curriculum.
"We urge stakeholders to advocate the inclusion of volunteerism in the curriculum. We will work with institutions of higher learning to introduce formal training and certification of volunteer managers," she said.
Kandie said for county governments and the private sector to spur growth, they should encourage and develop a volunteer-recognition framework.
Speaking at the same event, Standard Group Acting CEO Orlando Lyomu said the organisation initiated awards for volunteers in 2014, adding that they would continue supporting volunteerism.
"The Standard Group has been in the forefront of promoting volunteerism. We will continue recognising efforts of volunteers. We want to forge partnerships so that we can reach more volunteers," said Lyomu.
