Mining Cabinet Secretary Dan Kazungu has asked President Uhuru Kenyatta's campaign team in the Coast to focus on vote hunting instead of engaging in supremacy battles.
Kazungu said the key mandate for all the parties supporting Uhuru and his deputy William Ruto was to deliver votes. He said the supremacy wars in the Coast region were uncalled for.
The CS said it was unfortunate that some leaders had taken their issues to the media, adding that the in-fighting being witnessed is a non-issue during this period of campaigns.
Speaking in Langobaya, Malindi Constituency during an elders meeting to drum up support for the President, Kazungu said he was not interested in being the Coast kingpin.
“I do not want political supremacy, Dan Kazungu is not interested in being the kingpin or point man, Dan Kazungu only wants votes for Uhuru Kenyatta,” said the CS, as quoted by the Star.
The CS rubbished claims by a section of leaders that he was fighting fellow Kilifi leaders allied to the Jubilee Party in a bid to gain popularity.
Kazungu said DP Ruto was clear during his recent Coast tour where he urged Jubilee leaders to shelf their differences and work towards ensuring President Uhuru is re-elected.
“Let’s sit as children of Kilifi and talk to our people to seek the President’s votes, those who are seeking supremacy and want to be kingpin let them continue,” he said.
He said the Coast region risks being left behind in terms of development due to their decision to remain in the opposition.
“Kilifi and Coast at large are at risk of being left behind alongside Nyanza for their stand for the Opposition,” he added.
He asked the elders to be Jubilee foot soldiers and woo residents in the grassroots to vote for Uhuru.
