The Cabinet Secretary for Health, Dr. Cleopa Mailu, is leading a Kenyan delegation to attend the Universal Health Coverage (UHC) Forum in Tokyo, Japan.

The UHC Forum of 2017, which started at Tokyo Prince Hotel from 12th December, will take six days and was jointly organized by the Government of Japan, in collaboration with the World Bank, World Health Organization and UNICEF.

The forum comes after the Nairobi Declaration made during Tokyo International Conference on African Development(TICAD VI) in August 2016, where Kenya provided a unique opportunity for the African countries to take stock of progress towards UHC and pandemic preparedness; discuss different pathways of reform and agree on critical actions.

As one of the follow-up items of the Nairobi Declaration, the Government of Japan agreed to co-host the first high-level UHC monitoring meeting in Tokyo in December 2017, to track the progress of UHC.

The UHC 2017 forum agenda will focus on making progress towards UHC and improving health security, strengthening health workforce and financing UHC.

“The UHC will be looking forward to improving community-based approach towards UHC, access to medicine, improving quality, and increasing the resilience of health systems,” said the CS as written on Health Ministry website and official page.
