Speaking today, Friday, during a live press conference at his office, the CS revealed that the resultant floods had displaced over 12,000 families in the county who have been forced to move to safer areas.

The CS's revelations are consistent with the dramatic pictures that have been coming from Garissa County showing many places covered with water and people wading through the water.

Areas affected include Bula Nyuki, Bula Sheikh and Bula Punda amongst other areas.

''Around 12,000 families have been displaced. Many parts of Garissa have been submerged by floods. Areas affected most are Bula Punda, Bula Sheikh, Bula Nyuki and areas in Garissa Town,'' CS Chelugui said.

The Cabinet Secretary said that the government had put in place measures to ensure that the situation is mitigated and that the affected residents get the help that they need.

His words come in the wake of heavy rains pounding North Eastern Kenya and other parts of the country that has resulted in scores of deaths and destruction of property.
