Ministry of Education officials have established that a cartel has been creating an extra stream which is used to admit extra students beyond the number that the government recommends.

These revelations were made under by Robert Masese the Director of Secondary and Tertiary Education, after the CS Fred Matiangi ordered an audit of the selection process.

The audit report showed that in February 2016 form 1 selection process, there were more than 5,000 students with irregular admissions to national schools as headteachers had created secret streams.

Matiangi therefore, held a closed-door meeting with the TSC county directors, regional and county education officials, upon learning of the scheme.

He directed the senior officials to be very keen in their counties and ensure that the mistake is not repeated come next year.

The extra students admitted in the schools are made to pay a different amount of fee, which translates to millions.

It's the government requirement that all schools to have a maximum number of 50 students per stream.
