Education Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i has reaffirmed the government commitment to ensuring children get quality basic educational in their early years.
Speaking yesterday when he visited Kisii High School Matiang’i said there is a need for strong and effective early childhood education framework in which children are educated.
“As a government, our focus is to ensure we give our children a firm and excellent foundation as they grow up," Matiang’i said.
The CS pointed out that other than good infrastructure and appropriate learning environment, teacher participation and presence in the schools is essential to improving performance.
Matiang’i applauded Kisii county government for exemplary progress in ECCDE sector within the county and stressed that the focus is now on improving performance right from the formative years of education.
The Cabinet Secretary noted that the county governments and national government have an inter-relationship that is important in achieving quality ECCDE with matters of policy formulation handled by the latter and implementation by the county governments.
He called upon schools from the area to ensure they work hard and stop having any idea of cheating as the government will be more strict this year.
