Acting Education Cabinet Secretary Dr. Fred Matiang’i is expected to meet Kilifi county leadership to address education crisis in the region.

This is after it emerged that students who were selected to join form one in various secondary schools in the region have failed to report to school for admission.

Speaking at a Funeral service in Magarini, Kilifi governor Amazon Kingi said the county leadership is expected to hold a crisis meeting to deliberate on the issues together with stakeholders in the education sector.

He said the transition rate from primary to secondary school this year has been the worst in the history of Kilifi County with only 22 percent of students who sat the 2017 KCPE joining secondary schools.

The governor, however, regretted that despite the Jubilee government offering free secondary education, schools like Malindi high has only admitted a fraction of the students.

The quality of education and the teacher-student ratio will also form part of the agenda as the CS tours the region on Wednesday.
