Education Cabinet Secretary has yet again evoked emotions from among opposition supporters after giving strict timelines within which presidential elections should be held.

On Tuesday, Matiang’i challenged IEBC to conduct the fresh presidential polls before October 17th to allow students sit for various national exams.

And on Nyamira County Facebook page, hundreds of opposition supporters slammed him for allegedly ‘piling unnecessary pressure’ on IEBC.

“The constitution is very clear and we ought to respect it. We have 60 days and it’s upon IEBC to decide when to hold elections,” said Moseti Jared.

Wilfred Nyang’ena said:” This is the kind of unnecessary interference which he should be warned. Exams cannot be affected by a day election and he should know that.”

In his address, the popular CS said:”We urge IEBC to conduct polls earlier so that elections will not disrupt the third term program which may affect psychology of students.”

Constitutionally, a presidential election ordered by the Supreme Court following nullification of results should be held within sixty days.
