Education CS Dr Fred Matiang'i has urged county governments to invest in pre-school education, saying it is the only way that can help improve the sector.
Speaking on Monday, the CS issued that although county governments are tasked to oversee Early Childhood Development and Education (ECDE), policy programmes and quality assessment is a reserve of the national government.
Matiang'i also noted that lack of proper co-ordination between the two levels of governments was the biggest reason why there have been hitches in ECD learning across some counties.
"Pre-school education is not all about putting up structures, but we need a uniform policy that guides the sector. And at the same time, we need to rally together and solve the numerous challenges facing ECD education in our country," stated Matiang'i.
"Issues affecting ECD learning are interrelated across all the counties, and as a result of this, there is need for uniformity in policy provisions," the CS added.
Matiang'i disclosed that his ministry is working with relevant stakeholders to develop a National Early Childhood Education policy to be launched later this year.
