Interior Cabinet Secretary Joseph Nkaissery has assured Kenyans that security has been beefed up ahead of the August 8 poll, especially in Northern Kenya and other volatile regions.

Speaking in Kajiado Central Nkaissery urged Kenyans “not to panic as the government is in full control of national security”.

“The government is vigilant on security matters and in a matter of time will contain terrorist from Somalia who are behind attacks witnessed in North Eastern. We are on high alert to ensure security issues are addressed by all means,’’ he said as quoted by MediaMax.

The assurance comes amid tension along the Kitui-Tana River border where two communities are in conflict over pasture.

Three days ago eight security officers died in two separate attacks after Improvised Explosive Devices IED exploded in Garissa and Mandera County.

In the case of Mandera a vehicle part of Governor Ali Roba’s convoy was blown up by what authorities said was a landmine.Al-shabaab terror group is suspected to have been behind the attacks.Nkaissery also said security agents are on the ground hunting down the attackers and assured Borana community in Mavoko, Athi River of their safety.
