Health Cabinet Secretary (CS) Cleopa Mailu has dismissed claims by a section of leaders that the national government has failed to deliver medical equipment to counties.
Speaking during a stake holders meeting at a Mombasa hotel on Tuesday, Mailu said the government has delivered equipment to hospitals in 24 counties, adding that plans are being made to deliver equipment to the remaining counties.
He said the remaining 23 counties would get the equipment by the end of August 2017.
Mr Mailu attributed the delay in distribution of the equipment to challenges the government has faced in infrastructure and accessing hospitals.
“The government will deliver on its promises of delivering equipment to counties in the country. The government however faces infrastructure challenges and accessing hospitals has proven to be difficult,” said Mailu.
CS Mailu also issued a stern warning to quack medical training colleges and their staff saying they will face arrest and prosecution.
He warned that there was a rise in uncertified colleges in the country which has greatly affected the health sector.
Mr Mailu urged the Medical Training Board of Directors and principals to work closely with the Kenya Pharmaceutical Association and other agencies, in a bid to shut down bogus institutions.
This comes as a section of governors have expressed their concerns over what they termed as failure by the government to provide and deliver medical equipment to counties in the country.
