Public Service, Youth and Gender Affairs Cabinet Secretary Mrs. Sicily Kariuki has expressed a strong commitment in eliminating Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) in areas still practicing the outdated cultural vice in the country.

The CS called on parents to support the campaign that aims at eradicating it, describing the practice a form of violence against women and girls.

"We need to mobilize all resources to eliminate it from our societies as it has no place in our modern history," said Kariuki

She added that the campaign aims at restoring girl's dignity and make them to be able to complete their studies.

The CS added that no efforts should be spared to eliminate the retrogressive vice thus allowing them realize their empowerment dreams. She also advised the communities still practicing FGM to find alternative ways.

At the same time CS Kariuki reassured Kenyans that the National Government is implementing long term programs aimed at solving challenges facing the unemployed youths in the country.

Citing the National Youth Service(NYS) Empowerment Program (YEP), Mrs. Kariuki said it is tailored to specifically empower this important segment of the population with business skills besides empowering them economically.
