Speaking to this writer at Bondeni market on June 11, angry business operators said that they had incurred great losses due to the vice that is being practiced by few individuals in the area.

They claimed that cases of fake notes have significantly gone up to extents where children easily pick thrown away notes and re-use them to buy items.

Local retail shopkeeper Elijah Wachira said that due to the situation, they were beginning to reject thousand-shilling notes for fear that they were fake. He further called on the police for intervention.

"For the last two weeks the fake currency has been circulating in this area. This has threatened our operations. As business operators, we urge the police to investigate the matter and arrest the mastermind of the currency, whom I believe is just within us," said an irked Wachira.

Another business person M-Pesa operator Amina Juma said that in the last two weeks, she has incurred loses of three thousand shillings courtesy of the criminals.

"The fake currency resembles the original one. If you are not careful you may receive it thinking that its genuine," said Ms Juma

The business community now wants the police to conduct quick investigations and nub the criminals before more loses are incurred.
