Residents of Mwembe village, Kisii County, are now calling upon Gusii Water Company to quickly respond to water pipes breakages which are leading to massive water wastage.Water shortage is one of the major challenges hitting the county despites well distributed rainfall in the region.
The main pipe supplying water from the treatment area to the consumers has several breakages and loses connections which have caused the heavy water spillage.
These pipes are barely sunk into the ground thus exposing them to factors which lead to the loss, like vehicles and human.
Although several renovation procedures have been conducted by the company, they have not been effective enough which as lead to making it an expensive process.
“Water is life and we need to do something to curb this menace. We lose litres of water everyday yet there is water shortage here.” Owen Ogega.
Kids and other villagers who fetch water from springs and rivers are taking advantage of this water spillage as a way to collect water as they are not connected to piped water.
The water spillage has also lead to soil erosion and destruction of roads as water flows down hill thus more loss.
Wilfred Monyeye, the area MCA, has vowed to rectify the issues with immediate effect to avoid further loss.
