Education stakeholders in Garissa have said delays in the release of the new education system for schools has compromised learning.
The teachers urged the Kenya Institute of Curriculum Development (KICD) to expedite the release of the new curriculum for the new education system.
County ECD director Ahmed Bashir said the new education system should be released early to give teachers adequate time to understand and implement it.
Speaking at Garissa Primary School on Sunday during a three days training for Early Childhood Development (ECD) teachers in Garissa Sub-County, Mr Bashir said further delay of the education system may affect teachers planning of their lessons and schemes of work.
“Learning in schools has already been compromised by lack of syllabus and related books. The new curriculum should be released to give teachers adequate time to understand it,” the ECD director said.
Area Quality Assurance Officer Abshar Mohammed said training of teachers on the curriculum has already started.
Mr. Mohammed said the training will help the teachers catch up with the syllabus early enough and effectively implement the new curriculum.
“Training of Grade 1, 2 and 3 teachers started early this month under the Competency-Based Curriculum. We are now concentrating on EDC teachers so that they can be ahead of the rollout of the new curriculum,” he said.
