All couples married under customary law are required to register their marriage as from August 1.

This follows an order from the Attorney General Githu Muigai, in a gazette notice.

“All parties married under African customary law are required to register their marriages,” read part of the notice.

“It is notified for public information following the commencement of the Marriage (Customary Marriage) Rules, 2017, and in furtherance of section 96 of the marriage Act, 2014,” added the notice.

Registration will be conducted at Sheria House ground floor.

A marriage certificate shall be issued to successful candidates.
