Davis Karani, owner of Pawa Cyber in Molo, attributes the rise of his business to online betting.

He said young people visit his cyber cafe with notebooks where they have listed soccer teams and as they check the teams online, they calculate their chances of winning.

They then discuss and place bets before moving to the next match.

"Sports betting has improved my business. In the recent past, I almost closed my business but now I see a lot of potential," said Karani.

He says he has been forced to buy more computers to accommodate more clients.

Sports bet prefer using computers to phones because it is easier and faster.

“Betting on computers allows you to weigh teams' chances more efficiently as opposed to using a phone which can run out bundles or charge," said Moses Kiyai, a betting enthusiast.

"My aim now is on the jackpot and I am sure with keen analysis I can win it or get the bonus which is not a little amount."

While the business of cyber cafes in the recent past has gone down, betting sites, services such as payment of taxes online, filling of Helb forms and renewal of licenses such as driving licenses has boosted the use of internet cafes.
