A child rights protector has condemned cyber cafes that expose children to obscene materials in Athi River town.
Addressing the press in the town on Saturday, John Ngige, said most of the cafes in Athi River allow children to access pornographic sites, thereby corrupting their minds.
“I condemn cyber cafes that expose children to pornographic videos in town, they should desist from the vice,” said Ngige.
Ngige further said operators of such businesses are enemies of development, arguing that they compromise children's growth and development.
He said a number of children, who consume such information, spoil at tender ages, which leads to their engagement in illicit acts such as early sexual activities, thereby ruining their lives.
The defender said such children are more vulnerable to contracting STIs, including HIV/AIDs alongside getting unwanted pregnancies.
She called on the government to crack the whip on such operators and close such businesses, asserting that victims should be arrested for full force of the law.
