As the debate on whether to close Dadaab refugee camp or not gains momentum, Gatundu North MP Kigo Njenga has become the latest to support the closure of the camp.
Speaking during a mass in Mang'u Catholic Church yesterday, Njenga said that he supported the Deputy President's three months ultimatum to United Nations High Commission for Refugee (UNHCR) to move the camp to Somalia.
“To end Al Shabaab attacks in this country we have to close all these refugee camps. These people came here, saw and conquered. They are now determined to continue hitting us below the belt as long as the status quo remains,” said Njenga.
The MP said that the camps have been proved to be Shabaab's recruiting grounds and hideouts and asked the President to ensure they are closed down.
He also noted that the camps have been there for long and it is high time the refugees went back to their homes.
“As the DP said, you cannot accommodate a visitor forever and a time comes when you have to let them go. That time is now because we have a serious security challenge in this country,” said Njenga.
