President Uhuru Kenyatta on Thursday at State House Nairobi received Dadaab MP Mohamed Dahir Duale who defected from ODM and joined Jubilee.
The speaker of Garissa County Assembly and three MCAs also joined Jubilee from the opposition.
President Kenyatta said it has been his goal to unite all the communities in Kenya and the coming to Jubilee of the Aulihan community of Garissa County is part of the agenda.
He said that the Government will transform the county as it has been doing in other parts of the country.
He cited the construction of the Garissa-Modangashe Road, saying other roads within the county will also be built.
He ordered the release of 16,000 IDs that have been withheld as the recipients are vetted.
On the request for two sub-counties to be created in the County, the President directed the Interior Cabinet Secretary Joseph Nkaissery, who was present, to start the process immediately.
“I agree to your request on sub counties and I direct the Cabinet Secretary to do so,” the President said.
He also announced that he and his Somalia counterpart had agreed to open the border at Liboi and Mandera to facilitate movement of people, goods and services.
Mr. Dahir explained that he left the opposition because he and his constituents were convinced that Jubilee is the better option.
“For the first time our people have been given IDs, documents they have sought and waited for decades,” said the MP.
He also cited the construction of the Garissa-Modangashe road as a development that will “change Garissa forever.“
He requested the President that the Garissa-Daadab-Liboi road also be built.
Lagdera MP Mohamed Shidiye said who led the delegation to State House, said the Aulihan community is grateful to the President for accepting to host them.
“I am the only TNA MP in the North Eastern region. Am happy today I have been joined by my community in Jubilee Government,” said Mr. Shidiye.
He said the community had resolved to support the re-election of President Kenyatta in the August general election.
“Currently, we have 80,000 votes in Garissa County which we have resolved to give you,” he said.
Also present were Cabinet Secretary Adan Mohammed, IGAD Executive Secretary Mahboub Maalim and former Permanent Secretary Engineer Abdulrazak Aden Ali among other leaders.
Earlier, the President met a delegation from Narok and Kajiado counties.
The delegation was led by Governor Samuel Tunai.
The President asked them to remain steadfast in Jubilee and to keep the peace.
