Dagane issued a 30-day ultimatum to the water company to provide water to the residents saying many residents in the county are suffering because they don’t have access to safe drinking water.

Garissa Governor Ali Korane in a speech read on his behalf by Mr Dagane said that his administration has made a positive engagement with the ministry of water at the national government and other development partners to finding a lasting solution to the water crisis in the county.

The deputy governor further said that the county government has put in place measures that will ensure that the suffering brought about by the prolonged drought that has hit various parts of the county is minimized as hundreds of families are in need of water and relief food.

“Our people have been hard hit by the ongoing drought and water scarcity. To ease the situation and loss of lives, my government together with the national government is currently undertaking drought mitigation measures that include water tracking and relief food for pastoral communities.”

“As a matter of urgency, we have engaged Garissa Water and Sewerage Company and gave them a 30 days ultimatum to provide water for the residents of this town,” said Mr Dagane.
