The race to unseat Nakuru Governor Kinuthia Mbugua has taken a fresh twist after the incumbent stepped down in favour of Jubilee candidate Lee Kinyajui.
The race was previously viewed as a do or die between Kinyajui and Mbugua.
However, after the Jubilee nominations political dynamics have now changed.
Kinyajui defeated Mbugua in the primaries and President Uhuru Kenyatta prevailed Mbugua not to run as an Independent.
Now the race is seen as a two horse race between Kinyajui and NASA's Peter Koros.
Koros is running on Isaac Rutto's Chama Cha Mashinani which is an affilliate party of the Opposition NASA.
According to pundits, Koros, a Kalenjin, is a threat to Kinyunjui who is also eyeing the Kalenjin and Kikuyu votes in the county.
Analysts say Koros will eat some of the Kalenjin votes by virtual of being 'their own'. He will also benefit from minority communities aligned to NASA such as Kisiis, Luos and Luhyas.
Others in the race is John Mututho, running as an Independent, Paul Njoroge Ben of Kanu and James Mungai also running as an Independent.
