Kitui governor Dr Julius Malombe has an uphill task as he seeks to defend his seat in the forthcoming General polls after Former Lands Minister Charity Kaluki Ngilu and Senator David Malombe promised him a run for his money when that time comes.

Malombe is set to face off Musila during Wiper nominations ahead of the August polls. The senator, who is also the chairman of Wiper Party, has been launching attack after attack at the county boss for failing to keep his pre-election pledges yet he wants to retain his seat.

Musila has been accusing Malombe of nepotism in his leadership since he took over power after 2013 elections.

“If you look at the senior county officials, most of them hail for Malombe’s home of Kitui Central Constituency yet there is supposed to be a regional balance,” the senator said as quoted by Citizen.

Malombe has, however, rubbished the claims of the senator, terming them as baseless and aimed at bringing him down politically.

The county boss, who spoke during an interview with Citizen, insisted that the party will conduct free and fair primaries.

“NEB has set out to conduct a credible election, but it should be wary of some people who are trying to sabotage the process. Senator Musila is accusing me of organizing violence, I want to tell my people that he is playing propaganda against me,” said the governor.

On her part, Ngilu has vowed not to leave any stone unturned as she seeks to ascend to power in August.
