An obituary published by Nation newspaper on Wednesday with the details of James Richard Wanjagi but bearing photo of NASA coalition financier Jimi Wanjigi, has sparked mixed reactions from Kenyans.
According to the announcement which the Nation Media Group has come out to apologise about, the descriptions of Wanjagi are similar to those of Wanjigi including names of his family members.
Taking to twitter, Kenyans wondered how the local newspaper could publish such information without checking for the facts.
Aome criticised the paper while others expressed shocked following the news.
Below are mixed responses from twitter users:
@RobertAlai: WTF???? Daily Nation did Jimmy Wanjigi die without our knowledge?
@ItsMutai: Is it money you guys @dailynation wanted or you deliberately published the death of Jimmy Wanjigi? Do you guys even do a background check on your adverts?
@FQanini: Death Announcement appearing on page 49 of today’s Daily Nation of one James Richard Wanjagi. Today is 7th February, the funeral is to take place on the 6th of February. But that’s not the point.
@ItsOchieng: The hyenas are back home being coddled by their children. They will eat the children again!Daily Nation forgets so fast. The plutocrat Jimi Wanjigi is beyond print media blackmail
@PauloMtangazaji: The Daily Nation editors must have seen this and knew exactly that the announcer was referring to Jimmy Wanjigi and not Wanjagi. How can 2 people have almost same names, wives names, no of kids and even residence?
@NyarMaragoli: Meanwhile Daily Nation has advertised Jimmy Wanjigi's funeral advertises in today's papers yet he is alive. @dailynation what is this?!!!!!!
@MisAntre: Also, no amount of apologies can mend what the @dailynation has done to a living person on their obituary page! You media-lists keep peeing and shooting sputum on the little respect we carry for you. When the govt killed you for almost a week, you couldn't keep your lips sealed
@Asamoh_: Passport of Jimmy Wanjigi revoked.@dailynation carries a death announcement. And you people want to believe it was “ erroneous “ @tmshindi doing a NIS job at@NationMediaGrp
@Disembe: The families of John, Marion, Doris and Njeri whose loved ones appeared alongside this sad political gimmick by @NationMediaGrp@dailynation should sue for a REFUND. It is sad @tmshindi turned Nation Orbituary pages as his trade-off for this week’s government tenders.
