According to the chairlady of Ikinu Dairy Women Group Jane Muthoni, the industry’s progress is a major boost in their growth as they look to grow more and venture into other dairy businesses.

Speaking to our reporter in Ikinu Ward, Githunguri Constituency, Muthoni said they hope to further invest in the industry and earn more to tap into the growing sector.

“The dairy sector is growing fast due to high demand of the commodity in the market, we hope to increase the number of cows from the current 8 to 20 by next year because the price of milk is steadily rising,” said Muthoni.

Currently, the group earns a record Sh8,000 daily from the sale of 200 litres of milk and hopes to produce 600 litres of milk daily in the next year.

She further noted that they formed the group to boost their economic status and urged other women from the same location to form such groups and engage in economic activities to generate income for their families.

Muthoni revealed that they are in the process of applying for a loan from Kiambu Uwezo Fund to expand their enterprise.

“Due to the demand of milk in the urban centres, we are in the process of applying for a loan to help increase the number of cows and facilities,” added Muthoni.

She also urged the county government to allocate more funds in the women kitty to benefit more women.
