The farmers said they been prompted by the recent moves by the big milk processors over the constant fluctuation of milk prices.

Under the Nakuru County Dairy Federation, the group will now be agitating for more desirable milk prices for the farmers.

The organisation will further try to bring together the more than 500, 000 dairy farmers in the county under one body.

They will also aim to empower members about their rights in addition to enabling them access loans and fertilisers as well as providing market links for their produce.

Dairy farmers in the county welcomed the formation of the federation in a value chain consultative meeting during the week.

The federation will be headed James Ndungu Karanja owner of Pokea farm in Njoro.

He will be assisted by Joseph Kariuki, Wilson Mabwai (secretary), Samuel Ndung’u (assistant secretary) and Teresia Riungu (treasurer).

Other federation officials are James Kirubi (Molo), Joseph Gathuru Mbira (Gilgil), Michael Kahungu (Rongai), Francis Wanjema (Nakuru North) and Jeremiah Jomo (Kuresoi North).
